Running A Mook

Mook, Belgium, Wednesday, September 20, 1944: Operation Market Garden 
was in its third day and already 24hrs behind schedule. Nijmegen Bridge 
still was not in Allied control. German pressure on the airborne corridor 
was increasing daily. In Mook, the Germans had taken the town thus threaten-
ing the onl bridge the 82nd controlled at that time. Colonel Eckman quickly 
rallied all available forces and attacked Mook.

For the Americans to win they must capture the town of Mook
For the Germans to win they must defend Mook, the pathway to Nijmegen Bridge

Aftremath: General Gavin recognized the importance of Mook and asked for help 
from Cold Stream Guards. Meanwhile, Colonel Eckman attacked and, in an all day 
house-to-house engagement, slowly pushed the germans back out of Mook just as 
the Cold Stream guards arrived.
